Ankara (Times Of Ocean)- During a phone call on Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UN’s Antonio Guterres discussed regional and global developments and peace, including the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
“Turkiye is making great efforts to achieve a cease-fire in the Russia-Ukraine war and to re-establish peace. It is also working hard on the issues of humanitarian aid and evacuations,” Erdogan told Guterres, according to a Turkish Communications Directorate statement.
The UN’s Secretary-General praised Erdogan for initiating the mediation between Russia and Ukraine, his efforts to contribute to peace, and his diplomatic outreach.
More than 2.5 million people have fled to other countries since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24. About two million more have been displaced within the nation.
Many companies and international brands have also suspended operations in Russia as a result of sanctions imposed by the EU, US, and others.
