Kyiv (Times Of Ocean)- Ukraine currently has about 90,000 Russian soldiers, according to Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych.
Arestovych told the press that 22,000 Russian troops are also stationed at the Ukrainian border.
Approximately five million people have fled Ukraine since the second phase of Russia’s “special military operation” in the country’s eastern Donbas region began.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says the operation in eastern Ukraine will ultimately lead to the liberation of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, which were recognized as independent states just before Moscow launched its war on Ukraine on Feb. 24.
The Ukrainian military claimed on Thursday that nearly 21,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in Ukraine since Russia launched a war on its western neighbor.
So far, the Ukrainian army has destroyed 172 Russian planes, 151 helicopters, 829 tanks, 2,118 armored vehicles, 393 artillery systems, and eight boats.
According to a statement, Russian forces also lost 136 multiple rocket launchers, 1,508 vehicles, 76 fuel tanks, 67 anti-aircraft systems, and 166 unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to UN estimates, at least 2,224 people have been killed and 2,897 injured in Ukraine in the war that started on Feb. 24, with the actual death toll likely to be much higher.
UNHCR says more than 5 million Ukrainians have fled to other countries, with another 7 million internally displaced.
