Washington (Times Of Ocean)- A semi-truck struck their car on a highway in Oklahoma, US on Tuesday, killing six teenage girls.

Oklahoma Department of Public Safety said the accident occurred at the intersection of Highways 377, 22 and 99 in Tishomingo, about 120 miles from Oklahoma City.

In a letter to parents and students, Tishomingo Schools Superintendent Bobby Waitman said, “Our hearts are broken.”.

“We are grieving with our students and staff.”

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the deadly crash, which happened around 12.30 p.m. local time (1730GMT).

In a Facebook post, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Department said it was praying for the affected families and the community.

“This is an absolute tragedy which will have lifelong effects. This community and families need our support and prayers at this time,” the statement said.

All six teenagers were female, according to authorities. No names or ages have yet been released.

The semi-truck driver survived, but his condition was not disclosed.

Student and staff will be offered counseling to help them cope with the tragedy.

Tishomingo is a small town with about 3,000 residents.

“Our district has suffered a great loss,” said Waitman.
