Kyiv (The Times Groupe)- Russian forces have stolen 400,000 tons of grain from the four regions of Ukraine they occupied, Ukrainian media reported on Wednesday.
By quoting Taras Vysotskyi, Ukraine’s first deputy minister of agrarian policy and food, news outlet Ukrayinska Pravda reported the Russian troops have stolen 100,000 tons of grain from each occupied region – Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk, Luhansk.
The amounts were one-third of all reserves in these regions, he noted.
Famine could result if this continues and Russians take away what was left in the regions for food before the new harvest, the report warned.
UN estimates that 3,238 civilians have been killed and 3,397 others injured since Russia launched a war against Ukraine on Feb. 24. The true toll is likely to be higher.
UNHCR’s data shows that more than 5.7 million people have fled to other countries, while 7.7 million others are internally displaced.
