Berlin (The Times Groupe)- More than 700,000 people have fled the war in Ukraine through Germany, according to the Welt am Sonntag newspaper, citing Interior Ministry figures.

Since the beginning of the war on Feb. 24 until May 11, 727,205 people have registered in Germany’s Central Register of Foreigners (AZR), 93% of whom hold Ukrainian citizenship. According to the report, many may have traveled to other EU countries or returned to Ukraine.

Welt says that around 40% of Ukrainian refugees are minors, while 81% of adult refugees are female.

According to the latest International Organization for Migration (IOM) report, the Russian invasion has displaced more than 8 million people within Ukraine.

The number of refugees fleeing Ukraine has surpassed 6 million, making it Europe’s worst refugee crisis since the end of World War Two, the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) said on Thursday.
