WorldSaudi Arabia is targeted by Houthi attacks, causing damage

Riyadh (Times Of Ocean)- Saudi Arabia’s coalition has claimed that attacks targeted Aramco’s water desalination plant and power station in the south of the kingdom, as well as a gas facility in Khamis Mushait.

According to Saudi state media, the Iran-aligned Houthi group struck four times in the kingdom, damaging civilian cars and homes but not inflicting casualties.

Saudi state media (SPA) reported early on Sunday that one attack targeted a water desalination plant in Al Shaqeeq, an Aramco facility in Jizan, a power station in Dhahran al Janub and a gas facility in Khamis Mushait.

Aramco is preparing to announce its 2021 results on Sunday.

According to the coalition fighting in Yemen since 2015, Houthi attacks on economic and civil facilities were a response to a Gulf call for talks.

The UN expressed disappointment after a donors’ conference raised $1.3 billion, far short of its $4.27 billion target.

Yemen talks

Two Gulf officials told Reuters on Tuesday that the Saudi-based Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) plans to invite Yemeni parties including the Houthis to Riyadh this month for consultations.

On Wednesday, the Houthis said they would welcome talks with the Saudi-led coalition if the venue were a neutral country, including some Gulf states, and that lifting “arbitrary” restrictions on Yemeni ports and Sanaa airport was a priority.

The coalition said the latest escalation included ballistic missiles, drones, and cruise missiles. The military also said that it detects and monitors drones in the sky and intercepted a ballistic missile aimed at civilians in Jizan.

Images and videos of the damage caused by the attacks were posted by state media.

Houthi leaders have not yet commented.
