Beijing (Times Of Ocean)- China Eastern Airlines’ plane crashed in the mountains of southern China on Monday, the country’s civil aviation authority said.
There are potential casualties among the 123 passengers and nine crew members, CGTN reported citing officials.
According to the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the plane lost contact mid-air.
The jet involved in the incident was a Boeing 737, according to reports.
Tengxian county of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has extinguished a forest fire that began at the crash site.
The Chinese daily Global Times reports that more than two dozen fire engines and hundreds of firefighters have been dispatched to the site, but are facing challenges due to the mountainous terrain.
The Chinese flight was bound for the city of Guangzhou from Yunnan.
